Bringin’ The Heat

Sayveon

Sparkle had let me and Mama kno’ that her and the baby were good. She tol’ me ‘bout her Auntie and what happened too. I never had the chance to meet her Aunt Ruby when we were together, but I knew she had to be cool as a fan to even let her and Layla be there wit’ her. I missed my li’l Princesses, and as soon as I healed and got myself back right, I would go and visit wit’ them or either have a li’l sleepover when I got situated. I loved my seeds regardless of what I went through wit’ the mamas. I leaned back on the bed in my old room at Mama’s crib and put my head against the wall. I had shit that had to be taken care of. I reached for the cellie on the short wooden table by the lamp and dialed up a number.

“What up, Cuz?” Menace, cuzzo from Memphis spoke. I hadn’t seen him since he came to The Sipp and I got popped at the club that night wit’ Carmen, but we still chopped it up from time to time.

“Chillin’ at my mom’s crib. A lot of shit jumpin’ off over here. It’s gettin’ hectic, fam. I got mothafuckas comin’ at me from all kind of ways. You kno’ what time it is though.”

“Gotcha. I’ll holla at you. I got a few thangs I need to wrap up on this end before I bounce that way. I gotta see what’s up wit’ the trees, anyway. I’ll get wit’ Dez on the business tip. It’s dry out here, mane. So, I kno’ I can do some grindin’ and flippin’ and make a killin’. Nah mean?”

“I feel you. Be easy out there, my nigga. Deez fools thirsty. I just had a bitch send for me, nigga. Had her people run up in my crib and shit.”

“Dayum, those Sipp chicks gettin’ down like that over there?” he asked and chuckled a bit. I heard a feminine voice in the background tell him that somebody wanted to holla at him for a second. “A’ight Cuz, I’ll get at you.”

“That’s what’s up.”

I hung up. No doubt, I missed my boy Rich. We would kick it together, and he wasn’t afraid to lay a nigga down. I hated that it happened the way that it did between him and Pops, all over a bitch that wasn’t shit. I understood where Pops mind was at the time. Loyalty Over Everything was what Pops lived by. That’s why I had to make sure that he never found out about Carmen and me, but I felt that it was a dead and squashed situation.

I grabbed the remote from on the bed and turned on the television. The ten o’clock news report was on. The young, black anchor said, “On the news tonight police are on the hunt for a gunman in a dark colored SUV who opened fire on a North Jackson gas station, killing a seventy- two year old man in cold blood.
